MAY 28, 2021 UPDATE
Dear Members and Friends of First Presbyterian Church,
This memo is to inform you of a recent action taken by our Session in response to Governor Murphy’s March 26, 2021 Executive Order, No. 242. That EO rescinds wearing masks and physical distancing inside and outside of most facilities, including houses of worship. This means wearing a mask and practicing physical distancing during religious services is no longer obligatory. In an e-vote, the Session voted unanimously to also rescind our masking and physical distancing policy during worship but we also honor Governor Murphy’s Executive Order which states non-vaccinated persons “should continue to wear masks and practice physical distancing,” which is more for their own health, safety and well-being than anything else. To wear a mask or not is a person’s choice.
With that said, Session’s objective is to provide a worship space and place where attendees are able to enter and participate and experience God’s presence safely and comfortably. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing, I encourage and urge you to do so. As your pastor I have been vaccinated since mid-March. I think we can worship together without masks with minimal risk but I have not read, vaccinated or not, gatherings are entirely risk-free.
If you are anxious about attending worship in person or participating in church activities in person, rest assured we will continue our hybrid model of church. You may participate in the worship life either by Zoom or by Facebook, as I plan to continue employing virtual worship practices indefinitely. .
Also, next week, June 6th, Teri and I will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary, and Mark Hontz will be leading worship and preaching for me in my absence. Mark will be joined by his musically gifted family. I think you will enjoy his message as well as the musical leadership his family will offer during the service. f you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Deborah Albrecht or me.
