Stewardship is something we do but it is not something that we think about on a daily basis. We all are stewards of the church, and we all actively give of our time, talents, and finances. Do you think about your contributions to the church? How do you feel when you think about your stewardship? Are you a cheerful giver? In the dictionary it says someone is cheerful if they are characterized by good spirits or cheerfulness. In Biblical terms it may mean doing something with willingness and with good spirits.
This is why our 2021 stewardship campaign theme is: God Loves A Cheerful Giver. The theme is based on 2 Corinthians 9: verse 6, when Jesus tells his disciples, The one who plants a few seeds will have a small harvest. But the one who plants a lot will have a big harvest. In 2 Corinthians 9, verse 7: Each one of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give. You should not give if it makes you unhappy or if you feel forced to give. God loves those who are happy to give. What do those words mean to you? Let’s consider what the word ‘cheerful’ means. According to the dictionary, cheerful means to be noticeably happy and optimistic. Synonyms include hopeful, content, joyful and lighthearted. Wouldn’t we all like to feel like that during these trying times?
We are a tiny church in a small town, but we make a big impact. However, our helping others cannot be done without your help. As we think about the year ahead, we encourage you to pray about your support to and participation in the life of our church. Take time to pray about your support to the church with your time, your participation in the church with your talents, your contributions to the church with your financial resources. Put Corinthians 9: 6–7 to work in your life. Think about the many seeds that you can plant to achieve that big harvest. Think about how your faith grows with each undertaking. Think about the peace and cheer that your gifts will bring to others.
